U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) commented today on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision not to grant requests for a waiver from the corn ethanol mandate of the Renewable Fuels Standard:

"I am disappointed by EPA's decision to not grant needed relief to American consumers and the poultry and livestock industries. It is my hope Congress will put partisanship aside and have a serious, fact-based discussion about the corn ethanol mandate of the Renewable Fuels Standard."

Senator Hagan and Saxby Chambliss (GA) in August led a bipartisan group of lawmakers on a letter that asked EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to use the agency’s existing waiver authority to adjust the corn-ethanol mandate for the Renewable Fuels Standard. A copy of the letter is here.
