Egg sets, chick placements down

Commercial hatcheries set 195 million eggs in incubators during the week ended Nov. 24, down slightly from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.

Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent.

Broiler growers placed 151 million chicks for meat production during the week, down 4 percent.

Cumulative placements from Jan. 1 were 7.60 billion, down 2 percent from the same period a year earlier.
