Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this afternoon after being named to sit on the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittees on Health, Communications and Technology, and Oversight and Investigations:

"Chairman Upton announced this afternoon that I will be sitting on three important subcommittees in the 113th Congress and I am honored by the faith he has shown in my ability to serve. This is an important opportunity for the second district and North Carolina as we look ahead to the issues we will be working on next year. All three of these subcommittees are responsible for overseeing the many policies which govern industries that bring jobs to our state and impact so many of the things that affect our daily lives - from driving our cars, to using the internet, or going to the doctor. I am humbled by the ability to serve my constituents and the state in a more robust and effective way and look forward to working with Subcommittee Chairmen Murphy, Pitts and Walden during the 113th Congress."

This afternoon, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton announced that Congresswoman Renee Ellmers will be named as a new member to the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittees on Health, Communications and Technology, and Oversight and Investigations.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is considered one of the most powerful committees in Congress and is the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The committee is vested with the broadest jurisdiction of any congressional authorizing committee. Today it has responsibility for the nation's telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, energy policy, and interstate and foreign commerce.
