James A. “Art” Pope has resigned from the boards of the Civitas Institute and Civitas Action, Robert L. Luddy, chairman of both organizations, announced today. The Civitas Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to advancing conservative and free-market principles. Civitas Action is a 501(c)(4) non-profit that educates and informs North Carolinians on policy issues and the actions of their elected officials.
Pope has been named deputy budget director by incoming North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory.
“Art Pope was a founding member of both Civitas Institute and Civitas Action. Mr. Pope has been an important contributor to the board and we will miss his expertise,” Luddy said. “Mr. Pope has a profound knowledge of state budgeting and finances as a former elected member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. We will miss his guidance but the state gains a leading expert in public sector finance.”
“There is probably no one outside of government and few inside who understand state budgeting and programs as well as Art does,” Civitas Institute President Francis X. De Luca said. “He understands numbers and he understands how the legislative process works. Gov.-Elect McCrory made a good decision in his choice of a Deputy Budget Director.”
