Gov. Perdue appoints Blount to Superior Court bench in Judicial District 3A

Gov. Bev Perdue today appointed Marvin K. Blount III to the Superior Court bench for the 3A Judicial District, which covers Pitt County. Blount, who currently hears cases throughout the state as a Special Superior Court judge, will fill the vacancy in District 3A created by the retirement of Judge Clifton W. Everett.

“I am delighted to appoint Marvin to this position,” said Gov. Perdue. “He has served with distinction as a Special Superior Court judge and is highly regarded throughout the district.”

Blount has served as a Special Superior Court judge since 2009, presiding over numerous civil and criminal trials. Prior to becoming a judge, he worked in private practice in Greenville, N.C. with a concentration in civil litigation. Earlier in his career, he was employed by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He has served on the North Carolina Board of Transportation and has been a member of the American Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Pitt County Bar Association, the East Carolina University Educational Foundation, the East Carolina University Board of Visitors and various transportation planning organizations.

Blount received his law degree from Wake Forest University, and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from East Carolina University.

Blount’s father, Marvin Blount, Jr., also served as a Special Superior Court judge in North Carolina.
