Plant pathology department and Bayer CropScience team to create new graduate student fellowship

The Department of Plant Pathology and Bayer CropScience have partnered to establish the Bayer CropScience Fellowship for Graduate Students, a training program designed to prepare students for success in private industry.
One graduate student fellowship will be offered each year for three years, starting with the 2013-14 academic year. In addition to support for the student’s research program, the fellowship will provide an internship at Bayer CropScience.
“We appreciate the Department of Plant Pathology’s willingness to work with us in developing a new model for workforce development that will combine industry training with academic research,” said Dr. Mark Parrish, director of herbicide, trait, and PGR development for Bayer CropScience, at the December signing event. “We are very happy to enter into this partnership with NC State.”
Dr. David Monks, interim associate dean and director of the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service, said at the event, “We are excited about the opportunity this will provide our students to interact with Bayer scientists, learn more about career opportunities and help them see a future for themselves in industry.”
