In addition to being named the chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet, which was announced earlier, U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) has received his other subcommittee assignments on both of his full committees. Congressman Coble said he will serve on a total of five subcommittees on the Judiciary and Transportation and Infrastructure panels.
Rep. Coble said he has been appointed to the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations under Judiciary, along with the subcommittee that he will chair. On Transportation and Infrastructure, Congressman Coble will serve on three subcommittees. Rep. Coble will be a member of the Subcommittees on Aviation, Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, and Highways and Transit. He served on the same three Transportation panels during the 112th Congress.
“I am very excited to serve on all five of these subcommittees,” Rep. Coble said. “While the chairmanship of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet will consume a good portion of my attention, all five of these groups are focused on important issues, and I look forward to working on them during the 113th Congress.”
Under Judiciary, the panel that Rep. Coble will chair has jurisdiction over copyright, patent and trademark issues, along with the Internet and federal court system. The Crime subcommittee will have oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice, federal criminal laws, along with laws dealing with terrorism and homeland security.
Under Transportation, the Aviation subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board. The Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation panel has oversight of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Federal Maritime Commission. The Highways and Transit subcommittee has jurisdiction over numerous agencies such as the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Both Judiciary and Transportation conducted their organizational meetings today, at which time the subcommittee assignments were released.
