Successful Small Farms Opportunities Conference is Feb. 23

A regional conference for those interested in becoming farmers will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 at Vance-Granville Community College Multi-purpose Building in Louisburg. The Successful Small Farms Opportunities Conference will offer participants a chance to attend a variety of workshops to learn the latest farming information from successful producers and educators in North Carolina.

Workshop breakout sessions will focus on topics such as strawberry production and marketing, poultry and rabbit production, goat and sheep production and marketing, grant opportunities, irrigation and plasticulture, nut tree production, beekeeping, season extension and more.

In addition, 1st District Congressman G.K. Butterfield will provide an update on federal agricultural issues. Jared Cates of Carolina Farm Stewardship Association will outline North Carolina’s legislative agenda on small farm issues during the lunch hour. Trade show vendors also will be on hand.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program starts at 9 a.m. Registration is $20 per and includes a resource notebook, refreshments and lunch (only $10 for additional attendees from the same farm/family) by Feb. 20.
