Scruggs Poultry Inc. has officially closed its doors, although the reasons behind the closing last Friday have yet to be announced.

The Rocky Mount, N.C.-based processor was listed on several Internet business directories as a government supplier and poultry wholesaler with 35 employees and annual sales of more than $35 million, although those figures could not be confirmed.

An outgoing message on the main phone system at the company’s headquarters announced that the company had ceased operations as of Feb. 15.

Attempts to reach Anderson Holt, the listed Scruggs Poultry president and owner, also were unsuccessful.

According to the online regional business ranking site Bundle.com, Scruggs Poultry ranked No. 8 among
wholesale trade companies in Rocky Mount, with 93 percent of its customers residing in North Carolina.
