Board of Agriculture will meet Feb. 26 in Raleigh

The N.C. Board of Agriculture will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Eaddy Agronomic Services Building, 4300 Reedy Creek Road. The meeting is open to the public.

The agenda includes the following items:
· A report on the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ review of a request by environmental groups to have Arundo donax classified as a noxious weed.
· A request by the department for a $1 increase in admission prices for the Mountain State Fair, which takes place each September at the Western N.C. Agricultural Center in Fletcher. If approved, it would be the first increase in the Mountain State Fair’s admission prices since 2010.
· A vote on whether to allow the N.C. Small Grain Growers Association to conduct a referendum on continuing a half-percent assessment on sales of wheat, barley, oats, rye, grain sorghum, canola and rapeseed.
· A vote on whether to adopt sections of the Code of Federal Regulations pertaining to the production, storage and transportation of shell eggs and testing requirements for antifreeze.

The Board of Agriculture is a policymaking body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the NCDA&CS. Its 10 members are appointed by the governor. The commissioner of agriculture serves as chairman of the board.
