Two former Butterball workers were found guilty late last week of animal cruelty in connection with a 2011 video secretly take by an employee working for Mercy for Animals.

Defendants Terry Johnson and Billy McBride were found guilty of animal cruelty after a bench trial before Judge John H. Horne, Jr.

Last year two other Butterball workers pled guilty on animal cruelty charges based on their actions at a turkey breeder farm in Shannon, N.C.

“Since Butterball first learned of the 2011 incident at its Hoke County facility, we have condemned the actions of the former associates involved,” read a company statement emailed to Meatingplace. “We will continue to cooperate with all external investigations and authorities including during the most recent court proceedings. Animal care and well-being remains central to the operations of our company, and we are committed to the ethical and responsible care of our turkey flocks.”
