Giving him a clean bill of health, doctors at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro are discharging U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) this afternoon. Congressman Coble, who has been experiencing bouts of dizziness and light-headedness for the past few weeks, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday for testing.
Following a battery of tests, Rep. Coble was told that all of his vital signs were good and doctors could find no direct cause of the fainting spells. The 6th District representative said he would attempt to make some lifestyle changes to improve his health. “I will admit that my dietary and nutrition habits are not exemplary,” Rep. Coble stated, “so I am going to attempt to eat healthier and better balanced meals in the future. I don’t think, however, that I will be adjusting my work schedule any. I hope to remain as visible and accessible in the 6th District and in Washington as in the past.”
The doctors at Cone recommended that the 81-year-old representative wear a heart monitor for awhile to see if there is any connection to an irregular heartbeat and the light-headedness. Coble said the doctors at Cone told him that all of the heart tests they conducted at the hospital were positive.
The doctors did recommend several more days of rest, so Rep. Coble will not return to Washington this week. “Since no votes are scheduled before sequestration takes effect this Friday,” Rep. Coble added, “I will listen to my doctors and rest at home. If something breaks on Capitol Hill before then, I will make every effort to get back in time for any would-be votes.”
If nothing changes, Congressman Coble plans to fly back to DC next Monday.
