N.C. Board of Agriculture actions at recent meeting

The N.C. Board of Agriculture met Feb. 26 and took the following actions:
· Approved a recommendation from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services not to classify Arundo donax as a noxious weed. The recommendation followed the department's review of the plant.
· Approved a $1 increase in gate admission prices for the Mountain State Fair, which takes place each September at the Western N.C. Agricultural Center in Fletcher.
· Approved a request by the N.C. Small Grain Growers Association to conduct a referendum on continuing a half-percent assessment on sales of wheat, barley, oats, rye, grain sorghum, canola and rapeseed.
· Adopted sections of the Code of Federal Regulations pertaining to the production, storage and transportation of shell eggs and testing requirements for antifreeze.
