A statement from Congressman Watt on the sequester

Congressman Melvin Watt (12th District of North Carolina) issued the following statement in response to sequestration:
“I am extremely disappointed that the Republicans have apparently concluded that it serves their political interest more to disregard the likely consequences of sequester on the economy, jobs, the stock market and the economic well being of our country. There are viable alternatives to sequester, both short term and long term, that are much more targeted and balanced. But they require having two sides to discuss them and reach agreement. Unfortunately, to date the willingness to discuss and compromise has all been only on the President's side. The country needs to tell the other side that that is unacceptable."
