N.C. February field report

The N.C. Field Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service recently released the February farm report for N.C.

Soybean production totaled 61.6 million bushels, up 49% from last year.
Cotton production, at 1.2 million bales, was up 17% from last year.
Peanut production totaled 434.6 million pounds, up 49% from 2011.
 
CHICKEN EGGS
South Atlantic Region: Broiler-Type eggs in incubators on January 1, 2013 totaled 233,990,000. The total was down 3% from the January 1, 2012 total of 241,514,000 eggs. The total number of Egg-Type eggs in incubators on January 1, 2013 decreased 6% from 4,756,000 eggs in 2012 to 4,471,000.

GOATS
Meat and all other goats in North Carolina on January 1, 2013, totaled 70,000 head, down 3% from the 72,000 head on January 1, 2012. Milk goats in North Carolina totaled 6,300 head on January 1, 2013. This total is unchanged from January 1, 2012.

WEATHER SUMMARY
JANUARY 2013: The state has received much needed rain during January with some areas suffering from flood conditions and above normal temperatures. The main farm duties were tending to livestock, general farm maintenance and marketing grain. There were 3.1 days suitable for field work for week ending January 27th, compared to 3.4 days for week ending December 30th. Statewide soil moisture levels were rated at 1% very short, 6% short, 67% adequate and 26% surplus.
