As expected, President Obama nominated Gina McCarthy to replace Lisa Jackson as EPA Administrator. McCarthy currently heads the agency's Office of Air and Radiation, which has issued some of EPA's most controversial regulations related to climate change and air quality.

McCarthy has earned plaudits from a number of industry representatives for her administrative skills and willingness to engage industry stakeholders. Prior to her time at EPA, McCarthy served in the administration of Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. Also this week, the President named MIT physicist Ernest Moniz to head the Department of Energy.
