Ellmers votes to fund government through fiscal year

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement regarding her vote on the House Continuing Resolution for the 2013 Fiscal Year:
"Today my colleagues and I passed a continuing resolution that will fund the government through the rest of the fiscal year. We have taken the appropriate steps to act responsibly and provide the necessary funding of our government three weeks before the deadline to avert another funding battle."
"The great news for the American family is that this bill will save money. It is $63 billion below the current funding levels. Furthermore, this bill provides common sense policies that will forbid funding for contracts that do not comply with E-Verify requirements and prohibits the sale of F-22 aircraft to any foreign government. It also denies providing $949 million to the Department of Health and Human Services to pay for the implementation of key Obamacare programs. The American people elected us to be responsible stewards of their tax dollars and this bill ensures that the government is providing the right resources for the right reasons."
H.R. 933 extends the current FY13 CR through September 30th at post-sequester levels. The bill includes defense provisions that provide the Department of Defense with the flexibility to meet 2013 operational requirements without forcing them to spend funds on things that are no longer needed from FY12. The bill also cuts wasteful and unnecessary spending on certain programs to ensure that we no longer allocate funds for things like last year’s conventions and other programs set for termination; protects important law enforcement agencies (including FBI and border patrol) to minimize the furlough effects on national security personnel; and continues all current pro-life policy riders without any new riders.
