Nominations open for Pesticide Advisory Committee

The N.C. Pesticide Board, which oversees pesticide regulations in the state, is seeking a conservationist and a practicing farmer to fill two vacancies on its Pesticide Advisory Committee.

The 20-member committee advises board members and the commissioner of agriculture on matters related to N.C. Pesticide Law. Committee members provide feedback on technical questions and the development of rules and regulations. Members of the committee are appointed by the board and meet as needed to address assignments from the board.

Current committee members include two practicing farmers, an ecologist and a local health director. In addition, the committee consists of representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, N.C. State University, state health director, Division of Waste Management, Board of Transportation, N.C. Agricultural Aviation Association, pesticide industry, agribusiness, public utilities and railroads, forest pest management and the general public.

Nominations can be mailed to Jim Burnette, secretary, N.C. Pesticide Board, 1090 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1090, or emailed to james.burnette@ncagr.gov. Nominees should include a statement of qualifications and brief resume with their submission. Deadline for nomination is April 30.
