North Carolina has its own “show-me-your-papers” law in the works. The Reclaim N.C. Act, filed Wednesday by four state House Republicans, would allow local law-enforcement agencies to check immigration status, make it harder for immigrants in the U.S. without authorization to get out of jail, and it would bill unauthorized immigrants for prison expenses, among other provisions.
