Johnsonville Sausage LLC said it will work with its pork suppliers to transition to alternative pregnant sow housing from gestation crates by 2025.

“Johnsonville does not raise sows; however, we plan to move toward working with suppliers who can provide housing alternatives that allow for greater movement of the animal, while ensuring their comfort and the safety of their caretakers,” the company said on its web site.

Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin-based Johnsonville joins a growing list of food companies eliminating gestation stalls. In addition, nine states have banned the animal husbandry practice.
