USDA reports corn, soybean crop progress; rates corn condition

Farmers had planted 91 percent on the U.S. corn crop in the 18 major producing states by June 2, compared to 86 percent a week ago and compared to the five-year average of 95 percent planted by this time, according to USDA’s weekly Crop Progress report.

Last year, which was an unusually early planting season, 100 percent of the crop was planted by this time.
USDA reported 74 percent of the U.S. corn crop in the major producing states had emerged by June 2, compared to 54 percent a week ago and 82 percent emerged by this time on average over the past five years.

USDA rated 63 percent of the U.S. corn crop in good or excellent condition, 30 percent in fair condition and 7 percent in poor or very poor condition.

Heavy rains delayed planting in some corn-producing areas this spring.

Soybeans
USDA reported 57 percent of the U.S. soybean crop in major producing states planted by June 2, up from 44 percent a week ago and compared to the five-year average of 74 percent planted by now.

The U.S. soybean crop was 31 percent emerged in major states, up from 14 percent a week ago and compared to the five-year average of 49 percent emerged by now.
