Troxler appoints new general counsel, two division directors

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler announces three staff appointments at the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

General counsel
Tina Hlabse of Raleigh has been named general counsel for the department. Hlabse previously worked at the Department of Justice, where she was special deputy attorney general in charge of the section that defends state agencies against tort claims. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University School of Law.

Plant Industry Division director
Vernon Cox of Raleigh has been appointed director of the Plant Industry Division. He succeeds Gene Cross, who retired Oct. 31. Cox, an environmental programs specialist with the department since 2010, had served as interim director of Plant Industry since November. His career in state government also includes 15 years with the Division of Soil and Water Conservation. He is a graduate of N.C. State University.

Meat and Poultry Inspection Division director
Alan Wade of Erwin has been named director of the Meat and Poultry Inspection Division. He succeeds Donald Delozier, who retired April 30. Wade has worked at the department for 25 years, and for the past 17 he oversaw the Meat and Poultry Inspection Division’s compliance and evaluation section. His work on behalf of food safety has been recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

All three staff members have assumed their duties.
