Canada has approved eight Mexico-based processing plants for beef imports, said the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Sagarpa) in a press release.

The recently authorized plants are located in the Mexican states of Baja California, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas and Veracruz.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency technicians fully reviewed many federal inspection type (TIF) plants throughout Mexico during the past few months, along with their in-house procedures. The entity agreed that eight TIF establishments met all health and safety standards, as required by export markets.

With this decision, the Sagarpa, together with the Mexican Service of Health, Food Safety and Food Quality (Senasica), offer yet another export market to locally based beef producers.
