U.S. Senator Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) today announced that Halifax County will receive a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). The funds will be used to support a new state-of-the-art lumber processing facility in the Town of Enfield. The grant is expected to create 350 jobs and encourage $110 million in private investment.

“This grant is a smart investment in our timber industry that will spark economic development and put North Carolinians back to work,” said Hagan. “We must continue to take advantage of new technologies that will help North Carolina’s manufacturing and agriculture industries expand and grow our economy.”

“Klausner Lumber Two, LLC will create quality jobs for Halifax County citizens and significantly impact the forest products supply chain in our region and state, said James H. Pierce, Chairman of the Halifax County Board of Commissioners. “EDA funding is critical in providing the rail infrastructure required by Klausner Lumber Two to reach its global markets.”

EDA grants are awarded through a competitive process based upon the application’s merit, the applicant’s eligibility, and the availability of funds. More information on EDA’s grant process and investment process can be found at.
