McIntyre statement on farm bill

Congressman Mike McIntyre stated, “The Farm Bill should be about helping farmers. With 500 national farm organizations representing farmers from across America in opposing this particular version of the Farm Bill, farmers’ priorities are clearly not front and center. For half a century, farm bills have received strong bipartisan support in the halls of Congress. Our agriculture committee has twice passed strong bipartisan bills, only to find them turn into divisive partisan bills on the floor. This bill has been sabotaged again. North Carolina’s farmers and our economy need a Farm Bill. That includes all aspects of the agricultural coalition. That is what will ensure a pathway to a final bill that will be improved and work for North Carolina farmers and rural communities. Our farmers need certainty to produce the safe and abundant food supply that we all enjoy. I will not rest until we have done everything we can to pass a bi-partisan, 5 year comprehensive farm bill that works for NC agriculture. And that will be my goal in conference as we reconcile the differences between the Senate and House versions, so that ultimately we have the strongest, most beneficial farm bill possible.”
