Rural Center board confronts bleak future, holds up severance payment

The board of directors at the crippled N.C. Rural Economic Development Center on Monday confronted a bleak future without state money, endorsing a plan to consider whether to start “the legal process of dissolution” as soon as next month for the nonprofit that focused for three decades on serving the state’s rural areas.
