N.C. Coastal Resources Commission Science Panel to meet Aug. 22 in Washington

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission’s Science Panel on Coastal Hazards will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 22 in Washington, N.C. to discuss proposed nominees for the new science panel and other topics.

The panel will meet in the hearing room of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Washington Regional Office, 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, N.C. The meeting is open to the public, and the public is welcome to speak during a comment period scheduled for 2:45 p.m.

The panel provides scientific advice to the state Coastal Resources Commission.

In addition to the discussion of proposed nominees for the new science panel, the group will discuss nominees for ad hoc members of the panel. The panel also will continue its discussion of a study of the feasibility of eliminating the Inlet Hazard Area of Environmental Concern, as required by Session Law 2012-202 (North Carolina House Bill 819).

The 15-member science panel was created by the Coastal Resources Commission in 1997 and is composed of coastal engineers and geologists.
