Brazil sent its very first poultry exports to Mexico last Wednesday, said Francisco Turra, president of the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef), during a conference held in São Paulo. The Brazil-based company Seara, which is part of JBS SA, led the exports.

Last July, Mexico opened a quota for Brazil to import 300,000 tons of poultry products free of taxes, according to Brazilian news site DCI.com.br. This would ensure a continuous supply to the local market.

Mexico currently suffers from a shortage of poultry products due to recent bird flu outbreaks.

Turra believes that this would allow Brazil, the largest chicken exporter in the world, to export up to 200,000 tons of poultry products to Mexico

Ubabef estimates that Brazil will export 4 million tons of poultry products through the end of the year.
