On Aug. 27, more than 400 people attended the 9th Annual Commissioner’s Food Safety Forum to learn more about proposed regulations coming out of the Food Safety Modernization Act from the federal, retail and farm perspective. With sweeping reform coming to food safety regulations, this issue remains one of the most important to our industry. I believe that educating our farmers, and the industry we represent, about the proposed regulations is critical to adjusting and preparing for such reform. At the department, and through NASDA, we continue to comb through these proposed rules in order to formulate comments. I encourage each of you to take time and submit comments to FDA on these proposed regulations as well. The comment period ends Nov. 15.
