Smithfield namesake leaves company

In the wake of the purchase by Chinese-based Shuanghui International, the great-grandson of the founder of Smithfield Foods has left the company, according to the Virginian-Pilot.


Joseph W. Luter IV, who was named executive vice president in 2008, resigned from his position as executive vice president of the company, effective Oct. 11.
