On his blog, The Gates Notes, Bill Gates recently took the opportunity to hold forth on a relatively new initiative of his: The drive for a meat-free future.

One of the world's wealthiest individuals has invested in a Bay Area company, Beyond Meat, that is developing an affordable plant-based substitute for meat, one that ideally would have the animal protein's flavor, nutrition and mouth-feel.

In a section on his blog that he calls "The Future of Food," Gates delved into the topic further, primarily with infographic-based slides looking at how protein is raised, how different companies are tackling certain food processing challenges — including how to reduce sodium — offering recipes using meat-alternative products, and featuring an interview with author Michael Pollan.
