Data for weeks ending October 6th and 13th will be unavailable due to the federal government furlough from October 1st through 16th. There were 4.7 days suitable for field work for the week ending October 20th compared to 6.0 for the week ending September 29th. Statewide soil moisture levels were rated at 1% very short, 17% short, 70% adequate and 12% surplus. The state received little precipitation this week and average temperatures were slightly above normal. Small grain plantings are ahead of last year. However, cotton and peanut harvest percentages are slightly behind compared to last year due to the gray, damp days over the last two weeks.
