N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet Nov. 4 in Beaufort

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission, or CRC, will hold a planning meeting Nov. 4 in Beaufort to introduce new commissioners, discuss commission procedures and plan future commission meetings.

The commission will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the NOAA/NERR Administration Building, 101 Pivers Island Road.

The following are some of the items on the commission’s agenda:
•        Introduction of Commission Members – Brief introductions of new and returning commissioners.
•        Cape Fear River AEC Study – N.C. Division of Coastal Management staff will brief commissioners on an ongoing study of the feasibility of creating a new Area of Environmental Concern for lands adjacent to the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
•        CRC Planning – The commission will discuss CRC organization and procedures, agenda items for its next meeting in December 2013, and plan CRC meeting dates and locations for 2014.
•        Closed Session – CRC members will enter into closed session to discuss ongoing litigation with CRC counsel.
•        Public Input and Comment – Members of the public may comment on CRC issues at 11:45 a.m.

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission establishes policies for the N.C. Coastal Management Program and adopts rules and policies regarding dredging as well as coastal development within areas of environmental concern. The commission also certifies local land-use plans.
