The N.C. Board of Agriculture will meet by conference call at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 6 to consider a temporary rule that would increase the fee for waste-sample analysis conducted by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Agronomic Services Division.

Members of the public can listen to the conference call in the Hall of Fame Room of the Agriculture Building, 2 W. Edenton St.

Waste analysis helps growers make responsible decisions about the use of farm, municipal and industrial wastes and their by-products as fertilizer for crop production. The proposed fee would be $8, an increase of $3. The increase would help offset budget cuts.

If approved by the board and the state Rules Review Commission, the increase would take effect Dec. 1. The temporary rule would allow the increase to be in effect while the department works on permanent rule text.

The Board of Agriculture is a policymaking body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the NCDA&CS. Its members are appointed by the governor. The commissioner of agriculture serves as chairman of the board.
