WEATHER SUMMARY
OCTOBER 2013: The western part of the state received its first frost the week ending October 20th. Farming activities included harvesting field crops and planting small grains. As of October 27, statewide soil moisture was rated at 1% very short, 27% short, 65% adequate, and 7% surplus.

PEANUT production at 312 million pounds is down 28% from last year.
CORN FOR GRAIN production at 121.8 million bushels is up 27% from 2012.
SOYBEAN production at 44.6 million bushels is down 28% from 2012.
UPLAND COTTON production at 760,000 bales is down 38% from last year.
CHICKEN EGGS: South Atlantic Region: Broiler-Type eggs in incubators on October 1, 2013 totaled 232,385,000. The total was up 4% from the October 1, 2012 total of 223,092,000 eggs. The total number of Egg-Type eggs in incubators on October 1, 2013 increased 29% from 3,912,000 eggs in 2012 to 5,054,000.
