NC crops and weather report for week ending Dec. 1

GENERAL: There were 3.8 days suitable for field work for the week ending December 1st compared to 5.8 for the previous week ending November 24th. Statewide soil moisture levels were rated at 15% short, 74% adequate and 11% surplus which are well above last week. The entire state received rain during the week with many areas receiving over 2 inches of precipitation and a few areas receiving over 3 inches. Average temperatures varied across the state with some areas significantly above normal and other areas below normal. The average temperatures ranged from 28 to 49 degrees. The rainfall slowed harvest in most areas with cotton, soybeans and sorghum making less than a 10% increase in harvest  percentages. Hay cutting was affected the most with very little gains realized. Hay supply is rated mostly adequate at this time.
