The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative on Tuesday announced “substantial progress” toward completing Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. Countries involved include the United States and Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.
“The TPP is the most significant trade negotiation in a generation, and promises significant economic benefits for American businesses, workers, farmers, ranchers, and service providers,” USTR said in a statement.
USTR also cited analysis supported by the Peterson Institute that showed global income benefits by 2025 of an estimated $223 billion per year and real income benefit to the United States of $77 billion per year. The research also specified U.S. export benefits of $4.3 for pork and pork products and a benefit of $3.3 billion for beef and beef products.
