Pork prices jump, chicken down in latest producer index

Pork prices surged 5.6 percent in November from October, while the price of processed young chickens fell 2.3 percent, the Labor Department said in its latest producer price index report.


Processed turkey prices rose 2.9 percent, and beef and veal gained 1.3 percent. All monthly changes are on a seasonally adjusted basis.


Compared with a year ago, pork prices are up 9.6 percent on an unadjusted basis. Processed young chicken prices are down 4.0 percent on that basis, turkey prices are up 11.1 percent from a year ago, and beef and veal are down 4.2 percent.
