The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has updated guidelines to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in poultry processing plants. The document, first published in 2004, provides recommendations for poultry processing facilities to reduce the number and severity of work-related MSDs.
OSHA based the new guidelines on reviews of existing practices and programs as well as available scientific information on ergonomic-related risk factors in poultry plants.
The updated guidelines follow a recent report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing that the industry has made significant strides in reducing its injury and illness rate over the last two decades.
