AgCarolina Farm Credit awards over $30,000 to community programs

Fourteen organizations across eastern North Carolina have been awarded grants through AgCarolina Farm Credit’s corporate-giving program, the Fund for Rural North Carolina.  Grants totaling $30,600 will assist the recipients in carrying out programs that specifically benefit farmers and rural residents in the counties where the Association conducts business.  

Grants up to $4,000 per organization were awarded in one of the four focus areas of Education, Environment, Technology, or Quality of Rural Life to the following organizations:

•      Banks Elementary, $2,000, to purchase iPads for student use to assist with “Help our EGGspers Grow Project.”
•      Corinth Holders High School, $1,000, to continue the Partnership in Active Learning Support (PALS) program to educate youth at middle and elementary school age about agriculture and leadership principles.
•      Gatesville Elementary, $1,100, understand how plants survive in their environment while learning state standards in third and fifth grade.
•      Heritage High School FFA Alumni Chapter, $2,000, to provide leadership training to Heritage High School FFA members, which will reduce cost for students who are unable to participate due to financial limitations.
•      Johnston County 4-H, $2,000, to develop youth to be leaders in their community and provide funds to those that would not otherwise be able to participate in the program.
•      Lenoir County 4-H, $3,000, to purchase 30 incubators to increase agricultural knowledge, technology skills, and hands on training in elementary school.
•      NC FFA Foundation, $3,000, to expand the promotion for the profession of “agriculture teacher.”
•      Pasquotank County 4-H, $2,000, to support the purchase of science based educational materials for Pasquotank County 4-H to use in the county school system to provide hands on learning activities.
•      Perquimans County Cooperative, $2,000, to teach young people the necessary skills in judging livestock, as well as educating livestock producers.  
•      Princeton FFA Ag Department, $4,000, to aid in developing an animal science facility for students to gain hands on experience with livestock animals.
•      Riverside FFA, $2,000, to assist with a membership affiliation program and chapter officer support program.  
•      Southside High School Ag, $2,500, to offer students additional learning opportunities in an agricultural mechanics program.  
•      Wakefield FFA Alumni, $2,000, funding to purchase a high tunnel hoop structure that will lengthen the growing season for vegetable production, at the school.  
•      West Carteret FFA, $2,000, to purchase a new aquaculture lab for the ag education program.   The aquaculture lab will teach students chemical, biological, and natural processes in an aquatic environment.
