The Waterkeeper Alliance is calling for Gov. Pat McCrory to call for a State of Emergency in North Carolina regarding the handling of the deaths of thousands of pigs on N.C. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) in North Carolina. The pigs are dying from an outbreak of the porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus, which kills 50 to 100 percent of the animals that become infected.
