On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the House passed H.R. 2824, the Preventing Government Waste and Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America Act. The legislation amends the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 to regulate surface coal mining to address excess spoil, mining waste, and buffers for perennial and intermittent streams.
