China has stopped issuing permits for live U.S. pigs to enter the country out of concerns about the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDv) that has been spreading across the United States since last May, according to Livestock Exporters Association of the USA President Tony Clayton.

Clayton told Meatingplace by email the two countries must agree a testing protocol before China will resume live pig imports.

According to USDA statistics, China imported over 13,000 pigs for breeding purposes  in 2013.
