NC crop and weather report for week ending April 6

GENERAL: There were 5.0 days suitable for field work for the week ending April 6th compared to 3.3 for the week ending March 31st. Statewide topsoil moisture levels were rated at 4% short, 70% adequate and 26% surplus. Subsoil moisture levels were rated at 2% short, 71% adequate and 27% surplus. Tobacco transplant supply is rated at 94% adequate and hay and roughage supply is rated 31% short and 64% adequate. Wheat condition is rated 31% fair and 53% good which is similar to the conditions for barley and oats. The state recorded above average temperatures for the week with temperatures ranging from 2 to 9 degrees above normal with little precipitation. The warm, sunny weather pattern allowed farmers to begin field work in earnest this week as well as helped with pasture growth.
