The Russian and Taiwanese governments banned imports of chicken from California after a poultry flock in that state was found to have low pathogenic avian influenza, USDA spokesman Ed Curlett confirmed to Meatingplace.

Taiwan’s ban affects California poultry products loaded on or after April 19. Russia’s ban affects the same loaded on or after April 21.

U.S. trade agreements with those countries require that poultry exports from the state be suspended for a period when such detections occur.

“The flock has been quarantined and we are currently appraising the flock in question for indemnity,” Curlett said.
