Source: MEATINGPLACE, 4/24/14 Hatcheries set 213 million eggs in incubators during the week ended April 19, up 2 percent from a year ago. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week in the United States was 83 percent. Broiler growers placed 170 million chicks for meat production during the week ended April 19, down 1 percent from a year ago.
Cumulative placements from Dec. 29, 2013, through April 19, 2014, were 2.72 billion. Cumulative placements were down slightly from the same period a year earlier.
