NC crop and weather report for the week ending April 27

There were 4.8 days suitable for field work for the week ending April 27th compared to 3.4 for the week
ending April 20th. Statewide topsoil moisture levels were rated at 5% short, 72% adequate and 23% surplus. Subsoil moisture levels were rated at 5% short, 73% adequate and 22% surplus. Wheat condition was rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 23% fair, 57% good and 13% excellent which is fairly similar to the conditions for barley and oats. Wheat headed was reported at 20% for the week. Corn progress was reported at 60% planted and 32% emerged and Flue-cured tobacco was reported at 20% transplanted. The state recorded slightly below normal temperatures with the average temperatures ranging from 55 to 65 degrees. Wet conditions in some areas delayed field work.
