Analyst sees nearly 10% drop in hog slaughter by Q3

Agricultural economist Steve Meyer, president of Paragon Economics, is forecasting third quarter hog slaughter will be down 9.7 percent from last year as the ravages of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PEDv) continue to plague the pork industry.  


In the Daily Livestock Report, Meyer outlines how he has arrived at his forecast based on recent slaughter data, which included larger-than-expected declines in March and April slaughter.
