N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet May 14-15 in Atlantic Beach

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission, or CRC, will discuss ocean inlet management, a sea level rise study update and static line exception reauthorizations, among other issues, at a meeting next week in Atlantic Beach.
The CRC will meet May 14-15 at the Hilton Double Tree in Atlantic Beach. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. May 14 and 9 a.m. May 15. The meeting is open to the public.
The following are some of the items on the CRC’s agenda:
• Static Line Exception Reauthorizations – The CRC will consider static line exception reauthorizations for the towns of Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach.
• Inlet Management Study – Coastal Management staff will present a summary of comments received at four regional meetings on inlet management issues, along with a report on preliminary findings.
• Variances – The CRC will hear three requests for variances from its rules.
• CRC Science Panel/Sea Level Rise Study Update – Coastal Management staff will review the role of the CRC Science Panel, along with a report on current panel vacancies. DCM staff and the CRC will also discuss the panel’s role in the sea level rise study update as required by Session Law 2012-202.
• Rule Development – The CRC will vote on proposed rule amendments regarding 15A NCAC 7H.1305, which simplifies the permitting process for non-commercial boat ramps and associated access docks along estuarine and public trust shorelines; 15A NCAC 7H.1204 and .1205, which modifies the general permit for piers and docking facilities; and 15A NCAC 7H.0312, which modifies the CRC’s sediment criteria rules for beach nourishment projects. The commission will also consider proposed rule amendments for 15A NCAC 7K .0208, which would amend adjacent property owner notification requirements to streamline exemptions for single-family residences in the Estuarine Shoreline Area of Environmental Concern, and 15A NCAC 7H .1500, which would streamline permits associated with upland boat basins.
• Public Input and Comment – Members of the public may comment on CRC issues at 5:15 p.m. May 14 and 11:15 a.m. May 15.
• Public Hearing – The CRC will hold a public hearing on a proposed rule amendment for 15A NCAC 7H .2600 General Permit for Mitigation & In Lieu Fee Projects.
The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that provides the CRC with local government perspectives and technical advice, will meet at 9:30 a.m. May 14 at the Hilton Doubletree.

The Coastal Resources Commission establishes policies for the N.C. Coastal Management program and adopts rules and policies regarding coastal development within areas of environmental concern.
