Have you ever heard the saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”? It is a pretty simple sentiment: if something is doing its job and working correctly, why screw it up? Unfortunately, our federal government just cannot seem to wrap its head around what is simple and clear to everyday Americans. Another example of this emerged recently when the FDA issued proposed rules under the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA). Included in the FDA’s proposal was — a new regulation on spent grain fed to cattle that, if enacted, would be crushing to Asheville and all of North Carolina’s booming craft beer industry.
